Lean and Green is the largest international collaborative platform working to reduce supply chain emissions. Its primary goal is to help companies in all industries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions so that they can achieve the goals set by the Paris Climate Summit (COP21) for the year 2050.
Europastry embraced this initiative in 2020 when it undertook to reduce the CO2 emissions produced by its logistical operations by 20% within 5 years, and today we remain fully committed to our values and our goal of jointly achieving a better future for the generations to come.
In fact, in 2020 we managed to reduce our CO2 emissions by 42 million kg, a major achievement that underlines our commitment to sustainable production. But there’s still a great deal of work to be done, which is why we are still bringing to the table objectives and milestones that bring us even closer to the future we want for our industry.
During the course of 2021, we have been working to reduce our carbon footprint by 36%, our consumption of gas by 8%, and our consumption of water by 13%, and to help us achieve all that, we will continue to be part of the Lean & Green initiative.
EUROPASTRY PLEDGE
Our commitment to sustainability is present in each and every one of our value chain processes and in the good practices we implement in them: our use of renewable energy, our sustainable transport fleet, our reduced use of fertilisers and increased crop rotation, respect for the working conditions of farmers and the protection of biodiversity, placing special emphasis on the concept of “from the field to the table”.
All these actions are contained in the Responsible Wheat initiative, one of our most important commitments designed to change the future of baking by following a more sustainable and respectful path for our planet.
But we have no intention of stopping there: we are increasingly committed to producing more sustainable products that are made with local, high-quality raw materials, respecting traditional processes and using recycled and fully recyclable packaging.
